It's finally here
folks. After months of delays, re-shoots, and lost
faith, Rich Vos has finally released a DVD of his
patented standup act.
If you're a regular
visitor of Cringe Humor, you're probably familiar with
Vos' work. If you've seen him perform live then you
know he is one of the top headliners working today.
Don't make the mistake of judging Rich from his Last
Comic Standing stints. You only get to see him being
network friendly, something that has hindered scores
of performers throughout the years.
Vos' debut DVD focuses
on what he lives for - stand up comedy. The DVD is
nothing but 55 minutes of Vos on stage, performing in
front of his native New Jersians at the abysmal Stress
Factory in New Brunswick. It's great to see Rich at
his rawest, pushing the envelope, and not afraid to
say shit many PC douche bags would cringe at.
Rich doesn't do
impressions, doesn't jump around on stage, doesn't
rely on any wacky gimmicks. Vos is Vos - a creep of a
human from Plainfield, who's been through hell and has
survived long enough to tell us all about it . We
wouldn't have Rich any other way.
We also get to see him
do what he does best, working the crowd. Although we
don't get to see his victims (I will get to that
soon), Rich's razor sharp wit and insulting nature
enhances his tested material. Plus it's also cool to
see Vos smoke on stage, something you don't get to see
in NYC clubs due to faggy Mayor Bloomberg and his
laws. Yes, the simple things amuse me.
Some highlights from
the DVD include Rich talking about how expensive
Versace jackets are and how he'd like to go shopping
with Wynona Ryder. "See that jacket? I'll wait in
the car." Vos continues, "That little clepto,
if she ever came to my house and I left the room, I'd
make her clap this way I know she's not putting
anything in her pocket."
Vos begins the crowd
work early on and points out a black man with 2 white
women. "You know when you carjack, you're
supposed to leave the driver there." The crowd
erupts with "Oooohs" and Vos tells the
offended to "Go home & watch Will &
Grace...It's gonna get worse, I promise"
Vos goes on to cover
other topics such as parenting, dealing with women,
being a Jew, racism, overcoming addictions, political
correctness, and how much he stinks. All of his
observations are brutally straightforward and
hilarious, delivered in typical Vos fashion.
The only drawback to
the DVD is the lack of features & editing. There's
no chapter selection screen, rather just a tiny
picture of Vos on stage that you click on to begin.
The DVD was filmed from
basically a single, straight forward camera angle that
zooms in via sloppy cuts. This hurts Vos' crowd work
moments as we are stuck looking at just the back of
the people's heads seated in the front few rows.
The video quality is
great though, as we get a crystal clear view of the
greasy fingerprints on the prank call pay phone behind
Rich at all times. God bless Vinnie Brand and his old
gimmicky ways. The audio is also solid, not perfect,
but it sounds like you're actually there in the club
which is cool.
If you're an adamant
Vos fan, then you've probably heard all of this
material before but it's still always as funny as
seeing it the first time. The crowd work moments are a
gem to watch and worth the $20 price tag alone. Pick
up a copy now, and put money in Rich's pockets in case
he has another gambling mishap soon.
