The Awful Show remembers a legend.
The Awful Show announced that their 106th show, airing live on Cringe Humor this Friday, will be a tribute to George Carlin who died this past Sunday.
~~~
Reading, PA - The Awful Show will have a bittersweet beginning to their 3rd year in podcasting with Show #106 (airing Friday, June 27th 2008) being a dedication to the recently deceased stand-up comedian, George Carlin, who died of heart failure on Sunday, June 22nd 2008 at the age of 71.
George Carlin, most notably remembered for his "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV", was an inspiration to all of the hosts of The Awful Show - Tha Mike, Nerraux, Keyz and Joel. His undying dedication to 'calling it like he saw it' helped to set the stage for the "no-holds barred" attitude The Awful
Show holds dear.
"For me, he was a wonderful paradox. He obsessed on the negative that all see from time to time, but by doing so he gave me hope that someone else out there felt the same way and something might be done about it." says Awful Show host Nerraux. "He was a radical that told us we were right to question
all the messed up stuff the older generation (ironically, his generation) told us was the status quo. The world is heavier now that George Carlin is gone, if you can dig it."
The Awful Show, just 2 days before Carlin's death, held its 2nd annual Anniversary Show. The anniversary show was almost postponed due to a lightning strike at the Reading, PA studio which blew out most of the
equipment on Tuesday June 10th 2008, less than 2 weeks before it's scheduled airing. The Awful Show is putting forth an extra effort to rebuild the studio so that the Carlin tribute cast will be of the highest quality.
"This show will be a tribute to one of our fallen hero's George Carlin", said Awful Show host Tha Mike. "We all have so much love and respect for the man we thought it would only be appropriate". Tha Mike went on to say "Not even God can stop The Awful Show. Or stop all the laughter that Carlin has
given us".
The live broadcast will begin at approximately 10 P.M. Eastern Standard Time on Cringe Humor Radio (http://www.cringehumor.net/radio.html) and will be available as a recorded cast beginning Saturday afternoon from The Awful Show's Home Page (http://www.theawfulshow.com/). It will contain many of
George Carlin's classic bits along with a phone game themed around Carlin's "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV".
About The Awful Show
The Awful Show basically started out as an idea in passing that avalanched into reality in a matter of days. Time For Hate: Cringe Humor Radio announces the addition of Hate Speech Radio
New York, NY - May 30, 2008 – Cringe Humor Entertainment is pleased to announce the addition of Hate Speech Radio to their station lineup of exclusive talk shows. Hate Speech hosted by Satanism Today veteran David Harris will make its debut on Sunday, May 31st at 4pm Est.
Hate Speech Radio launched in August on 2007 in an effort to combat the ridiculous climate in the United States surrounding the faux public outrage over offensive speech. In today’s politically correct society, it only takes a handful of uninformed and uneducated zealots to force someone to censor what they say for fear of being branded racist, sexist, or bigoted. “If examining the world from an honest, intelligent, and humorous point of view is considered hate speech,” says Harris. “Then this, my friends, is Hate Speech Radio!”
“Everyone pretty much knows my disdain for everything,” says Cringe Humor founder and CEO, Patrick Milligan. “At a time when political correctness and the religious right is at an all time high, this is the perfect time for a change. Hate Speech will follow in the same vein of all the other shows on our network, which is complete freedom of speech and uncensored talk.”
While Hate Speech will join an already diverse line up of talk shows on Cringe Humor Radio, they will be bringing a different take. “We’re expecting them to go to the edge when it comes to some of the most talked about issues like politics, sexism, racism and a whole lot more,” Milligan says. “They’ll definitely bring a unique take as well as providing listeners with some hilarious moments. I’m excited about having them as part of our team.”
About Hate Speech Radio
Hosted by David Harris and his co-hosts Duane, Heather and Chuck, Hate Speech Radio will examine issues in the news from a rational, intelligent, and often comical point of view. We also refuse to accept the notion that radio broadcasters, unlike any other medium, need to sugar coat our words with safe, politically correct speech. You will eventually be offended by something you hear on this show. Do you think you can take it in stride, and laugh at yourself as you laugh at everyone else, or will you cry like a little girl with a skinned knee because the big, bad, radio people said something that you didn’t like? For more information about Hate Speech Radio log onto www.hatespeechradio.com.
The 4 episode HBO stand up show I'm shooting has booked our 4 headliners. Each show will have me hosting, three comics, and one headliner. Each audience will see two different half hour episodes shot. Our headliners are: Artie Lange, Bill Burr, Patrice Oneal and Andrew Dice Clay. There's no way to request specific shows, we honestly don't know who is performing on what night yet. I am thrilled we got these guys, every one of them is working for almost no money, trying to help me get this show off the ground. I know you're going to love these shows, we have great comics booked, and as you can see, four funny motherfuckers to close the shows out. I'm sure you would anyway, but please show a lot of love to these guys, none of them needed this gig or needed the money, I needed them and they all came through. Ticket confirmations are being sent out now. Oh, and Lemmy from Motorhead is our musical director. i could not be fucking happier.
COMIC STRIP LIVE TO BREAK GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
COMIC STRIP LIVE Comedy Club to set the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Stand Up Comedy Show” while raising money for the USO
Starting on Tuesday June 3rd at 8:30 pm and ending on Thursday, June 5th at 10:30 pm, Comic Strip Live will set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Stand Up Comedy Show. For 50 continuous hours, there will be laughter without end with the country’s brightest stars shining on stage.
Audiences can expect over 100 professional stand up comedians to grace the Comic Strip Live stage. Some will be up and comers with a few years of solid NYC stage experience, most will be seasoned professionals. Sets will run from 20 minutes to hours long. Comic Strip Live has offered an open invitation to Dave Chappelle & Dane Cook to finally settle their “longest individual stage time” competition during Comic Strip Live’s 50-hour world record show.
For the entire 50 hours of the world record attempt, there will always be a professional comedian on stage, an audience, club & wait staff and, of course, non-stop laughs. On each of the three nights (June 3 to 5) from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm, Comic Strip Live will still have their regular weeknight stand up shows as part of the record. Outside of those times, and while setting the record, audience members can stop by whenever they want (free admission), for as long as they want to watch comedy while being treated to a bevy of free bagels, chips, popcorn, donuts, coffee, sodas and energy drinks. Additionally, on Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, free breakfast will be served.
In addition to setting the world record, this event will also allow Comic Strip Live to raise money for the USO. This will be done by selling sponsorships and accepting donations throughout the 50-hour event. 100% of the monetary donations received will be donated to the USO. Also, the 50 hours of comedy will be edited down and the USO will play it for the soldiers both in the US and oversees (part of the Armed Forces Network).
I am hosting a new, half hour standup comedy show on HBO. Something ‘Awful’ coming to Cringe Humor Radio
New York, NY, April 10, 2008 – Cringe Humor Entertainment Inc., today is proud to announce a new addition to its online radio programming. The Awful Show will be making its official debut on Cringe Humor Radio, Friday, April 11, 2008 at 10 P.M. east coast time.
The Awful Show brings a wealth of radio experience to the Cringe Humor line up. For almost two years the show has enjoyed success as a podcast, ranking them in the top 15 in iTunes’ comedy genre. They are also ranked in the top 5 on Microsoft Zune podcasts. All four members of the show have extensive radio credentials, including stints at highly rated radio stations around the country, college radio and even a NASCAR talk show.
“I often use the word ‘awful’ to describe my sense of humor,” explains Cringe Humor president, Patrick Milligan. “These guys have made a culture out of it. It’s always great to bring in people who aren’t afraid to make fun of everything, including themselves. They are a welcomed addition to an already proven line-up of radio programs.”
The Awful Show is headquartered in Reading, Penn., but two of the hosts are brought in live from different parts of the country. Although the cast is a tight knit crew, it’s important to point out that Tha Mike and Nerraux have only met Joel in person twice and Joel and Keyz have never met in person.
“I’m excited for what this means for the show,” says co-host Nerraux about joining the network. “Both in adding a better-quality live stream for our present listeners and the opportunity to expand to a greater audience.”
Already with a tremendous following, The Awful Show, is a fan friendly and loves interacting with listeners (commonly called the Bros and Hoes). They consider them their extended family. The show also has a rewards system called Awful Pennies for tasks that the audience does for the show.
“Since The Mediocre Show joined Cringe Humor I've been jealously listening to their flawless live audio stream,” says show host Tha Mike. “Now that we're finally getting the audio love we deserve, I'm proud of being part of an Awful Show broadcast on CringeHumor.net.”
“I consider this one of the greatest accomplishments we’ve had happen to the show thus far.”
SERIOUSLY, THIS GUY ISN'T FUNNY
April 1, 2008 -- THERE's nothing amusing about Dane Cook, according to fellow comics and two Boston radio personalities who are about to name him "The Unfunniest Comic" this afternoon.
WBCN jock Fred Toucher, who co-hosts a talk show with Rich Shertenlieb weekday afternoons in Boston, says Cook is the overwhelming favorite in a tournament patterned after NCAA basketball's March Madness, where he's ahead of Jay Leno, Jeff Foxworthy, Carlos Mencia and Paula Poundstone.
"We were talking about how people laugh out loud at nonsense and Dane is a good example of that," Toucher told Page Six. "We'd listen to him and at the end of four minutes he'd change subjects, and that was it. We couldn't figure out when the joke was.
"And he's actually hated. People don't hate others they way they do him. At least Foxworthy panders to rednecks. Dane's stories are so weak you wouldn't want to hear them over lunch."
Cook, 36, has been accused of stealing jokes by Louis CK, Demetri Martin, Joe Rogan and others. And the big-headed comic is also known for his huge ego and his diva-like demands.
The star of such movie stinkers as "Employee of the Month" and "Good Luck Chuck" allegedly was also once tossed out of Smith & Wollensky steak house because he was so difficult. "His assistant ordered for him. He got a steak and sent it back three times," said one employee. "The chef was furious. Eventually we told him enough is enough."
And one insider on the set of the TBS World Series commercials Cook filmed last year said he demanded blocks of tickets for postseason games in return for filming the commercials for free.
"He doesn't recall ever being to Smith & Wollensky," said Cook's spokeswoman Ina Treciokas. "He did go to Houston's when he was in town a few weeks ago and ordered chicken, which he did not send back. As for the [baseball] campaign, he did it for free. In return, they gave him two tickets to any baseball game over the next three years, and he's been to five games so far." Treciokas added: "He is a triple-platinum artist who's sold 32,000 tickets on his last tour in Boston and 365,545 tickets in 25 cities over the course of the entire tour."
MILLIONAIRE COMEDIAN PRICK-WAVING AT IT's FINEST
Apparently Dane Cook brought in 2008 by doing a marathon 7 hour long set at the Laugh Factory In LA. Of course Jamie Masada's generic bullshit was quoted in the linked piece.
Reports say that Cook ran out of Louis CK material about 6 hours into his set, and finished by wildly waving his arms around while mimmicking a dragon. Dave Chappelle has sworn to break his previously held record in the ultimate show of "Nobody Gives A Fuck."
Here's an idea to you millionaire comics. Stay off the stage for that long, and let someone who needs to be up there perform. Yes, I know LA is a vortex for standup, but once your story gets into the headlines, no one will care the next day. Maybe Dane can use his spare time starring in another romantic comedy in which he chases the elusive love of his life throughout the cutesy 90 minutes. Yuck.
Cringe Humor Joining Forces with
Mediocre Nation & Comical Radio
New York, NY - October 16, 2007 – Cringe Humor Entertainment is pleased to announce that two programs will be joining their already strong line up of shows on the Cringe Humor Radio Network. The Mediocre Show and the Comical Radio Show will begin their first week at Cringe Humor starting on the Wednesday, October 17 at 9 PM when the wildly popular Mediocre Show officially turns to the live talk format.
“It is with great pleasure that we can bring these shows live on our network to fans of the shows and the station,” says Cringe Humor founder, Patrick Milligan. “Anytime you can add one of the most popular podcasts in the world to a talented lineup of programs it is a no brainer for us.”
The Mediocre Show has experienced great success as a podcast for over two years. Currently ranked number 3 in the iTunes comedy category, the show has accumulated a legion of fans and has been featured in Maxim magazine. Now that they’ve conquered the podcasting world, they’ll look to do the same with live internet talk radio.
“The Mediocre Show sounded like a good idea over 2 years ago, now that we have over 110 episodes, we are starting to rethink that,” says Eric Tomorrow, the show’s creator and host. “However, we have gone too far to turn back. The next logical step is to join forces with Cringe Humor Radio and blow the doors off fake talk radio.”
The Mediocre Show will be bringing it’s own brand of laid back talk, and sarcastic humor to Cringe Humor Radio every Wednesday at 9 PM EST. “We look forward to interacting with fans live every week, instead of waiting for the voicemails to roll in.”
For years Comical Radio has entertained comedy fans while with New York’s 87.9 FM, The Biz, a student run radio station at Baruch College. Host Danny Lobell has worked as a comedian since he was 16. The show features fellow comedians Chris Iacono, Katy Olsen and David Kasten. Each week the show talks about the world of comedy with some of the biggest names in the business. On Friday, October 12, Comical gave us a sneak peak into their world with guests Sussie Essman (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and the legendary Pat Cooper.
“After breaking bread with Danny and playing ping pong at a computer store for about a half hour I now realize that he can talk to pretty much anyone,” says Cringe Humor Radio program director Cris Italia. “That makes him fearless on the radio and that’s what we love about his style.”
You can catch Comical Radio as they make their official Cringe Humor Debut on Friday, October 19 at 1 PM.
NEW YORK, October 4, 2007 -- Paris Hilton vs. Dick Cheney? YouTube vs. Porn? Michael Vick vs. Michael Richards? COMEDY CENTRAL has picked up "The Root of All Evil," a new series in which Lewis Black puts pop culture on trial and presides over the comedic proceedings, it was announced today by Lauren Corrao, executive vice president, original programming and development, COMEDY CENTRAL. The series will premiere in March 2008.
Moderated by Lewis Black, "The Root of All Evil" pits two people such as Paris Hilton and Dick Cheney or pop culture topics such as You Tube vs. Porn against each other in an open debate setting. A rotating group of comedians will take the stage and argue who or what is most evil with Black making the final decision between the two.
"Who better to serve as the great decider for all that is evil than Lewis Black? We are thrilled to be working with him on a new series that embraces his insight and personality. He has been a mainstay on COMEDY CENTRAL for years with his hosting gigs, numerous stand-up specials and his trademark 'Back in Black' segments on 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,'" said Corrao.
"I am thrilled to become a part of popular culture by being the self-proclaimed decider of what is evil in our popular culture and by the end of the show's run I will no doubt have to judge myself," said Black. Click Here To Read More...
Dane Cook Stealing From Chicago?
On Tuesday, the great Ron & Fez Show played audio of the previously mentioned Dane Cook song "Forward" and compared it to Chicago's "Hard For Me To Say I'm Sorry." The evidence against Dane is once again strong...Below is audio of the segment that aired on Ron & Fez, you decide for yourself:
Rob Shapiro Is A Douchebag
Former child star & current NYC Underground Comedy icon John Femia has posted a fantastic blog about his dealings with Rick Shapiro's twin brother Rob. Cringe Humor ran into Rob several years ago when taping "Full Metal Comedy" outside of the Comedy Cellar. CH posted a pic of Rob in which we described his silliness as "retarded." Shapiro took offense to that, and harassed Robert Kelly to have it taken off the site. Then the psychopathic emails for spots on CH Shows from Rob began pouring in, but we ignored him. Seems like Rob is now harassing other producers & comedians for stage time, and John Femia has wonderfully detailed it on his MySpace blog. Check it out...
TMZ.com has posted a video of former CH Show host Godfrey giving a verbal beat down to a patron that accused him of hitting on his girl outside the Laugh Factory. Jamie Masada won't take action against Godfrey because he never once said "Nigger" during the exchange.
Here's to hoping Godfrey will return to NYC soon and maybe actually reply to my emails about spots on future CH shows
"Cash Cab" host, and featured CH comedian Ben Bailey made his glorious return to standup at the Comedy Cellar Boat Ride this past Monday night. Ben opened up his set with his classic "Ben Bailey Blvd." routine that garnered an applause break from the crowd. Ben did have some rust on him though, as he forgot the ending to his dialing the wrong phone number routine. Ben admitted this was the first time in 7 months he's been on stage due to his busy shooting schedule and family.
Here's to hoping Ben gets up more often as he is truly one of NYC's funniest.
First Merv Griffin dies, and now the PC Police are at it again and have deemed recent performances by comedians Eddie Griffin & Kathy Griffin to be a li'l too risqué.
Eddie was pulled off stage at a fund raiser for using the N-Word a too much. (Click here to read about it)
Kathy (no relation to Eddie) is now the victim of a religious witch hunt after making a Jesus joke at the Emmy Awards during her acceptance speech (read about that here).
While both Griffins are hideously awful has-beens on stage, it is once again frustrating to see how standup comedians are crucified for expressing themselves. It will be scary to see how much more this country will censor the art form in the next few years. What a bunch of pussies we have become.
Let it be known that the only Griffin CH finds funny is this man:
And may God have mercy on anyone's soul who tries to censor him!
